Do you care about the Great Bear region of Canada too?

This is an area of the great Canadian north that is glorious in its pristine wildness.  Here is an opportunity to make a difference brought to you by Black OUT TO SPEAK OUT:

Dear Supporter,   Last week, people across the country rallied together to Defend Our Climate and Our Communities.  Today, we’re asking for your help protecting one of the most spectacular places on Earth from an oil spill.     In the coming weeks, big decisions will be made about Enbridge’s Northern Gateway oil pipeline project proposed to run through the Great Bear region of Canada.  Will you stand with Coastal First Nations and the people of British Columbia and say “no” to this risky project?   The proposal would see twin pipelines transport 525 thousand barrels of diluted bitumen everyday through one of the world’s last large intact coastal temperate rainforests.  It would cross hundreds of wild salmon rivers.  And bring super tankers, the length of the Empire State building, into the Great Bear Sea—a critical refuge for the world’s recovering populations of humpback whales.   The Great Bear’s waters are ranked as among the world’s most treacherous, making a major oil spill a very real threat.  A spill would destroy the long-term, sustainable jobs of the people who live in this region.  And it would devastate wildlife from grizzlies to coastal wolves to the rare Spirit bear.   You can help stop a disaster in its tracks by adding your name: www.askacanadian.ca.  Because when Canadians say they care, the government of Canada must listen.
