I have just gotten into reading “Climate Cover-up” written by James Hoggan with Richard Littlemore. Hoggan is the cofounder of DeSmogBlog which is a very informative website which probes into the real facts of global warming and other environmental issues.
I am only about 1/3 of the way into the book and have realized that this is a book that needs to be read by EVERYONE. It exposes the Public Relations scams that have fooled so very many people over the years. The revelations of how big Oil companies and governments have sidled up to each other, hired so-called “experts” to spin the most influential stories and press releases which have turned the very real threat of Global Warming into the more benign sounding term Climate Change.
“Thus we have moderate, reasoned, and commonsense language to describe immoderate, unreasonable, and insensible government policy. A year after President George W. Bush asked the National Academy of Sciences to report on the risks of climate change–which is to say, a year after the academy assured the president that the risk was real and increasingly severe–one of the cleverest linguistic manipulators in the country provided talking points that would enable the president to convince Americans to adopt a “commonsense” position based on ignorance and self-interest.”– “Climate Cover-up” written by James Hoggan with Richard Littlemore
This not just something that is going on only in the USA…it is happening in every political arena worldwide. We, the people, of every country in the world need to read this book in order to become aware of and wary of what is being told to us by all levels of government and the media. We need to be aware of the manipulative use of words which come from supposed “experts”. In fact, we need to be aware and very curious about the credential of these “experts”…many of whom despite having science degrees of some sort, have done no studies or research in the area of global warming at all but are on the other hand are charismatic and convincing “speakers” paid by Oil interests to lobby in governments and legislatures as well as in public forums.
As I move on through this book I am sure that I will again feel the need to post more on the topic.
